Research on Worker Dignity: Call for Faculty Participation
Study Overview
This qualitative research project investigates how lecturers and professors (all ranks) across multiple disciplines within SFSU experience their work, particularly under conditions of cultural, political, and technological change. The study focuses on professional identity, institutional governance, and how external changes are interpreted at the level of everyday academic work. This study builds on my broader research agenda focused on the dignity of work and the structures that support workers, especially in socially oriented sectors, like education and healthcare.
Purpose and Goals
- Document how lecturers and professors (all ranks) experience and respond to shifts in the perception of their disciplines.
- Explore how institutional structures (e.g., shared governance, union representation) interact with faculty voice and dignity of work.
- Identify themes and patterns to inform potential future inquiry into institutional documents and decision-making processes (e.g., committees).
