
Robert Kohls
( He/Him/His )Robert Kohls earned his PhD in Language and Literacies Education from OISE/University of Toronto, Canada. He is an Associate Professor of English/TESOL and teaches courses in second language acquisition, language teaching practicum, L1 and L2 writing theory and practice, sociolinguistics, and academic writing for multilingual writers. With nearly 30 years of experience teaching English in Canada, Colombia, and the United States, he brings a global perspective to his work as an educator and researcher. His research interests focus on teacher written feedback, writing teacher education, and writing for publication. He co-edited Perspectives on Good Writing in Applied Linguistics and TESOL (University Michigan Press, 2023) with Christine Pearson Casanave and Narratives and Practice of Mentorship in Scholarly Publication (Routledge, 2024) with Pejman Habibie. Robert is the former coordinator of the undergraduate writing program at SF State and previously served as co-book review editor for the Journal of Second Language Writing. He is currently co-editor of The CATESOL Journal. Robert credits many brilliant mentors throughout his career, but says his most impactful teachers have been his students, who continue to teach him about language, culture, and learning.
